Any vehicle over 10,000 lbs. is considered a commercial vehicle. Your TESCO sales representative can tell you exactly which vehicles we sell are commercial and non-commercial. The weight of your vehicle is displayed in your driver’s side door jamb.
Vehicle inspection rules vary per state and county where the vehicle is being titled. Also, requirements vary based on the GVWR of the vehicle. Please refer to your local regulation or ask your TESCO sales representative to assist you.
The GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the total weight of the bus, including passengers, cargo, etc. This can be found in the driver’s door jamb. View TESCO’s informational video for visual assistance.
Federal regulations require a CDL if your vehicle is carrying 16 passengers or MORE. If you are driving with 15 passengers or less, you are not required to have a CDL. A few states do have more restricting regulations, so be sure to check with your local BMV.

Unlike a car, most minibuses have two vehicle identification numbers. The primary number is the chassis VIN, which is similar to an automobile. The other number is the serial number used by the bus body manufacturer. TESCO uses these numbers to identify the correct replacement parts for that specific vehicle. Typically, both of these numbers, along with the GVWR, can be found in the driver’s side door jamb. TESCO also has a video explaining how to find these numbers HERE.
Many customers lease their bus from TESCO, so only up-front fees are needed at the time of sale. Lease fees can be paid with a company check. Bus purchases can be made by ACH transfer, wire transfer, or certified cashier’s check. In some instances, company checks suffice, however this may delay the processing of title work. Deposits can also be made on buses with a credit card.
TESCO accepts VISA or MasterCard payments for parts. In some instances, C.O.D. orders are accepted as well. If you would like to set up a billing account for parts purchases, ask your parts sales rep for a credit application.
Yes, ministry discounts are available. TESCO knows that ministry budgets can be tight and we will do whatever we can to help.

TESCO does not recommend towing trailers with a bus. Please check with your insurance company before adding a hitch. Most likely they will not insure your bus if a hitch is added.
